What is the Gospel?

The Gospel of Salvation

Salvation means to be rescued from sin and its punishment - set free to know, love and serve God. Jesus said “Most assuredly, I say to you, whoever commits sin is a slave of sin…if the Son makes you free, you shall be free indeed.” (John 4:34,36).

All People have turned away from God. The Bible calls this sin. “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” (Romans 3:23).

Left to Ourselves, there is no rescue, and the justice of God requires our eternal punishment in the terrors of Hell. “He who believes in the Son has everlasting life; and he who does not believe the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God abides on him.” (John 3:36).

Victory over sin was obtained when God sent His Son Jesus to earth. Jesus obeyed God’s laws perfectly, yet He died to pay for the sins of all. “In this is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins.” (John 4:10).

Admitting that our sin has put us in a desperate situation is the first step in our rescue. “If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” (1John 1:8-9).

Taking the free gift of Jesus’ payment for our sins makes us “not guilty” in God’s sight. “For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” (Romans 3:23).

In Gratitude for such love, we seek to obey Him by faithful service. “I beseech you therefore, brethren by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service.” (Romans 12:1).

Only Jesus has provided the way of salvation. “Nor is there salvation in any other, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.” (Acts 4:12).

Now is the time to make your decision. “Behold now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation.” (2Corinthians 6:2).

The Gospel:

I Corinthans 15:1-8

Moreover, brethren, I declare to you the gospel which I preached to you, which also you received and in which you stand, by which also you are saved, if you hold fast that word which I preached to you—unless you believed in vain.

For I delivered to you first of all that which I also received: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, and that He was buried, and that He rose again the third day according to the Scriptures, and that He was seen by Cephas, then by the twelve. After that He was seen by over five hundred brethren at once, of whom the greater part remain to the present, but some have fallen asleep. After that He was seen by James, then by all the apostles. Then last of all He was seen by me also, as by one born out of due time.
